Maharshi Dayanand University is a state-funded institution of higher learning that was founded in Rohtak, Haryana, in 1975 as a result of the passage of Haryana Act Number 25. The university's primary goal was to advance multidisciplinary higher education with an emphasis on topics linked to ecology, environment, and life sciences.

The Maharshi Dayanand University's primary goal from the beginning was to provide high-quality education across the country, reach out to underserved groups of the population, and provide opportunities for students who were unable to continue their higher education due to a lack of resources. In order to get around these obstacles, the university began providing online and distance education programs through its Centre for Distance and Online Education department.

With new technical advancements and a more tech-savvy culture, the necessity for digital initiatives has become critical. The university has a fully functional digital learning center that examines, curates, and tracks the use of digital learning materials. It also makes suggestions for programs and ways to improve how these resources are used for efficient teaching and learning. The university has established its own Learning Management System (LMS), which enables college students to freely and publicly access all LMS resources (presentations, documents, PDF files, videos, etc.) made and uploaded by the institution's staff.

Exam Procedure 

The examination format used at Maharishi Dayanand University is the most popular format, and it consists of two significant elements: internal assessment and end-of-term exams. The end-term examinations are conducted to assess a student's overall theoretical understanding, and they carry 70–80% of the total weight. The internal assessment is conducted to assess a student's practical understanding throughout a semester, and it carries approximately 20–30% of the total weightage, which also includes the assignments that are assigned to every student at the beginning of every semester.

The Maharishi Dayanand University Online supports its students in every manner and mentors them as they go through the university's academic program. Through its Career Counselling and Placement Cell, which helps students develop their abilities and keeps them informed about job trends, recruitment strategies, scholarships, and many other topics, the university also aids its students in placement.
